1. Is it safe to travel to Israel?

Absolutely! As a matter of fact, Israel is probably one of the most safe, secure nations in the world. Their security is top notch and risk is actually quite low. Yes, there are high risk areas (as shown on the news) but they are specific areas that we do not tour.

Additionally, all of our guides have served in the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) in special ops. Not only are they highly trained, they are also kept abreast of any potential issues.

While any travel involves risk, traveling to Israel carries no more risk than traveling anywhere in the U.S.

  2. How much does it cost?

In order to offer the best pricing available, cost is determined by group size. For pricing tiers, please contact us.

Tour fees are paid to HaGesher and due in full prior to departure. Reservations are not held without payment.

  3. What about airfare?

Participants are responsible for booking their own airfare. We have a marvelous travel agent we are happy to connect you with, if needed.

  4. When you say “study” tour, what do you mean?

We specialize in study tours, which means we visit the sites (traditional and non traditional) but incorporate in-depth Bible study. We go beyond the basic historical facts and delve into the specific application for believers.

  5. Who can go on the tour?

In most cases, tours are scheduled with a host ministry and participation is at the discretion of that host or tour leader. For trips hosted directly by HaGesher, participants will be asked to complete an online application.

In general, there is no age restriction but we ask that participants be spiritually mature and physically able to handle extensive walking and some hiking.

  6. Do I have to have a visa?

U.S. residents do not need to apply for a visa in advance; this is granted upon arrival at Ben Gurion airport. All other non-U.S. passport holders should check with the Israeli Embassy regarding their specific requirements.

  7. What is the currency?

Israel’s currency is the New Israel Shekel (NIS). Currency rates are available online and we recommend checking them prior to departure. While many vendors in Israel accept U.S. dollars, we recommend obtaining shekels for most cash purchases. Currency exchange is available at the airport and other locations throughout the tour. ATMs are also available to withdraw cash.

  8. What should I pack?

Prior to departure, all tour participants will receive a packing list that includes dress code and other necessities. In general, we ask that participants opt for conservative dress out of respect for the culture and to meet the requirements of the holy sites. Specifics are included with the packing list.

  9. What are the accommodations?

For the first six days, we stay at Yad Hashmona, a wonderful retreat located in the Judean Hills. Founded by Finnish and Jewish believers, it is the only hotel of its kind in Israel and is also the home of the guides, their families, and other believers. A key feature of Yad Hashmona is the Biblical Garden, which includes a working wine press, olive press, threshing floor, mikveh, and other Biblical-era artifacts. Throughout the garden are herbs, olive trees, grapevines, pomegranate trees, and all manners of flowers. Excellent food, warm hospitality, and breathtaking views make Yad Hahshmona the perfect spiritual retreat while in the Jerusalem area.

While in the Galilee, we stay at Nof Ginosar, a quaint hotel located right on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Home of the “Jesus Boat,” it is perfectly located close to all the major Galilee sites, including Capernaum, Magdala, and Mt. Beatitudes. Whether taking in a magnificent view of the Arbel Cliffs or a stunning sunrise over the Sea of Galilee, it is the ideal location while staying in the north. (An exceptional gift shop is also located nearby for those with a shopping itch!)

  10. I have a medical condition: can I still go on a tour?

Medical conditions are best assessed on a case-by-case basis. In most cases, we are able to accommodate requests such as refrigeration for medication, items like distilled water, etc. If your condition is more severe, please contact us.

At this time, most sites in Israel are not wheelchair accessible and may also be challenging for those with certain physical disabilities. If you have questions regarding the physical requirements of the tour, please contact us.

  11. What if there is a medical emergency?

First, we highly recommend all tour participants obtain travel insurance prior to departure. This small expense is worth the cost. For recommendations, please contact us.

Otherwise, Israel is one of the most medically advanced countries in the world and medical facilities are readily available. Should an emergency arise, rest assured there is excellent medical care.

  12. Can you accommodate special diets?

For the most part, we can accommodate special diets. Israel is a vegetarian’s delight, as fruits and vegetables are in ample supply at all meals. Gluten-free diets can also be accommodated but may require advance notice at some locations. For any other special diet needs, please contact us.

  13. Should I go?

Yes! Israel is truly one of the most wondrous places on earth. If you have even an inkling of wanting to dive into the scripture, learn Biblical history or culture, or understand the Hebraic roots of your faith, there is no better way than to GO!
