Reading the Book
As believers, we are often asked if we read the Word but has anyone ever asked you how you read scripture? The how is just as important as the if!
This week's resource, "Reading the Book" by Joseph Frankovic, addresses that very topic. Frankovic recognizes the challenges many modern readers face when interpreting the text and how that impacts both belief and action. He states “interpreting the Bible is a question of acute relevance, because how we understand Scripture ultimately determines to a large degree how we put it into practice.”
In his essay, Frankovic examines the different bents and presuppositions readers carry into the reading of the Bible. But he also offers what he calls a "Jesus-centric" approach, which he hopes will enable readers to have a better understanding of Jesus and the application of His words.
While certain points may be argued, the essay remains a worthy resource for those seeking to understand Jesus in his Jewish context - and how to bring that understanding into our reading of His Word.
Oh, and did I mention it's available as a FREE download? Can't beat that!
Happy reading!
